Research

I consider myself a "positive" information systems researcher. Relatively recently, the branch of positive psychology emerged with the goal of understanding and developing interventions to improve individuals, families, and communities. Along a similar vein, I am interested in finding ways to help people use technology to improve their lives, families, or other organizations.

I find classic psychological biases and heuristics (such as anchoring, primacy, recency, and the fundamental attribution error) fascinating, and I think they provide valuable ideas that can be used in information systems scenarios. Using these biases, we may be able to present information to people in ways that reduce the cognitive burden of working with technology so that they can get on with the tasks that matter most.
